wow... i've been going about this the wrong way the whole time! i've been the martyr by staying home w/baby while i beg 21st century dad to go out and do the errands... mainly because i don't have money in my personal checking account and i still haven't figured out how to swallow my pride and ASK FOR MONEY. i always worked outside the home until 2 years ago. and i haven't quite gotten the hang of inventing reasons to leave the house. lol... yes. i'll have to make more trips to wal-mart. great strategy!

btw 21cd has been bugging me to check out your blog for a while. but i've been distracted by my new "job" making twilli pie podegi baby carriers.

Thanks for the mention. It really does take more time to accomplish simple things.

Right now, I invent excuses to stay home with the baby and invent excuses for the teenager to be out of the house.

I was a holy terror as a 2 year old. The first born son and the oldest child in an Asian family is treated like a king. Then my little sister came along and changed that.

You turned parenting into a mathematical formula. My respect for you has just jumped up another notch.

I'm totally with you on the Goodwill donation thing. Sometimes I wonder if we couldn't set up some kind of child-share co-op thing. I'm sure there are other parents out there, red-haired ones maybe, who'd like to borrow a young son from time to time.

I thought I invented the errand trick! I guess we can share credit, along with all the profits from selling the idea on a series of late-night informercials. Deal?

Oh, Lori, you make me giggle. There is so much truth to all this, and bless your heart for making the humor come out in it.

When the kids were little I remember thinking how much easier and less hectic it would surely be when they got older and didn't demand so much physical attention. Then before I could finish blinking they were all in high school, and I would listen to other frazzled parents lament over how much 'easier' it would be when their kids got to be as old as mine. Huh? When exactly did the exchange between their need for primarily physical care switch to such intense emotional needs? Not sure, but it stayed hectic. And I wouldn't change a solitary moment of it for all the gold in the world =)

(Most days, anyway....)

Our neighborhood has now grown from a group of young parents having small children and sleepless nights and cherubic group Easter Egg hunts and pony rides and carnivals to one of multiple teens, young adults, hot rods, and bon fires.

I can't wait for Part 2 in this series!

To Cheryl - for twins, just square your "revised" answers from parts 1 and 2. Then pray you'll be done in that amount of time. I don't know how you manage!
Oh, Kristie, you're really scaring me now!
Anyone else out there want to dash my hopes and tell me that 3 is worse than two? And if so, could you pass the XANAX please?

Hasn't anyone told you yet that 3 is WORSE than 2?? :P Seriously, I have 5yo and a 31 month old (who was a 31 weeker), as well as a 10 month old. Our pediatrician always says two is terrible, 3 is worse.

I love the math for #1 though! Keep up the good work.

Yeah, I just caught Lori dumping out the half-full bottle of coffee creamer, then 5 minutes later she says, "Honey, I need to run to the store and get more creamer for tomorrow." MmmmHmmm I'm onto this game! ;-)

The kids don't act out on me as much as Lori, but that could be because I'm a giant to them. I don't mind Lori running errands, and she really does try to get back quickly (NOT!) ;p
